A friend of mine admitted to me that she had an extreme aversion to washing dishes. She would rather iron laundry as crumpled as crêpe papers than execute that somewhat mundane and so ordinary chore. I can watch the episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservation while scraping and soaping the china (that is if I feel like being environmentally responsible by not using the dishwasher which is not very often).
It's one of the devoir that you can carry out without requiring an extensive ability and let's be frank about it, it is one of the most boring task to do around the house. There are no variations or any deviations that you can engineer to make it more exciting . It's so starkingly and painfully simple task and yet how come a lot of people started developing phobia (I still have to search for the name) to it.
Some household are resorting to using disposable eating utensils instead of their exquisite porcelain or the so ordinary melamine dinnerware (tsk tsk I would not be surprised if Oneida would soon close shop) to avoid the scourge of washing dishes. But I bet you they can not escape the disapproving look of the Green movement, it will not surprise me at all if our future mountains are made of Dixie and Chinet dinner wares. Hmm, I should start investing on these companies.
Everytime I wash dishes, the only thought that come to my mind and this is as predictable as the digging of the squirrels on my plants: Did the Queen of England ever wash dishes? If indeed she did, when and what are the mitigating circumstances around it. Were there witnesses to document this, did she enjoy the exercise? I want to know. Why I chose the Queen, why not Bill Gates ? I am 100 percent confident that the latter did it, he was not born a royalty. During the process scraping, soaping, rinsing and drying, I would come up with names of famous people, ranging from the already dead to the current newsmakers; then eliminating them from the list. One time I ask my husband if Michael Jackson washed dishes, he said yes and I believe him. ( He is my husband, period).
In summation, living in United States is hard for Filipinos who's used to having household help. So, I will continue with my dishwashing by hand and gain the friendship of the environmentalist and retire in the Philippines. What does retirement have to do with dishwashing you ask? I can hire x numbers of dishwashers in Manila and pretend I am the Queen of England.

I have a small decorative hanger plate which says: "The Queen Doesnt Cook"...hehhehehehe.
But the Queen of the house does wash dishes and that is her contribution to be able to eat the good dishes...hehehehe.
